Most people take it as a given that Hal Finney was Bitcoin’s first user, and while this is a very well-established opinion, there is no literature that supports this directly.
I will present my 3 discoveries and explain how I managed to extract this information and why (I think) everyone missed this and what does this mean for Bitcoin.
I did a forensic investigation that analysed all the available public information and made 3 discoveries:
- Hal Finney in fact missed the Bitcoin launch
- Satoshi was running 2 nodes already by the time Hal joined
- The Bitcoin Network halted 8 times in the first 170 blocks
