Beyond the Collectible: Building with On-Chain Data Through Xtrata OR What If a Song Was Software? Building Music On-Chain with Audionals
2026-11-21 –, Pioneer - Creative Stage

What becomes possible when the blockchain holds the actual content and code behind an application?

Xtrata is an inscription platform on Stacks that lets creators store and connect digital assets, from music and artwork to software and interactive experiences. This talk explores how those assets can become reusable building blocks, allowing one creation to reference and build upon another.

Through practical examples, I’ll show how this approach supports digital preservation, playable media and applications assembled from on-chain components. I’ll explain the relationship between Bitcoin inscriptions and Xtrata on Stacks, what each makes possible, and the challenges involved in building experiences people can actually use.

Attendees will leave with a practical understanding of inscriptions as a creative and technical medium, and ideas for building with them.

A finished recording captures the sound of a song, but often leaves its creative history scattered across project files, messages and separate databases. What if the music could carry that history with it?

Audionals explores moving the music-making process on-chain: audio, instruments, effects, processing code and sequencing instructions become components that can be referenced and combined. The ecosystem spans Bitcoin Ordinals and Xtrata inscriptions on Stacks, opening up different ways to create, share and experience music.

Drawing on my experience as a musician and builder, I’ll demonstrate the approach and explain the longer-term ambition: songs that carry their creation history, contributor attribution and agreed credits and splits.

This is a practical look at what works today, what remains to be built, and how blockchain could become part of the creative process itself.

I’m the founder and developer of Xtrata. I built it to explore a simple question: what could we create if digital content could remain available, retain its history and become a foundation for other people’s work?

This session will cover why Xtrata exists, how inscriptions can reference one another, and how that enables connected applications and creative experiences. Examples will include preserving digital collections, on-chain music and interactive software.

The talk will combine a short explanation of the architecture with demonstrations and lessons from building the platform. It is intended for builders, artists and anyone interested in practical uses of blockchain beyond trading. No prior knowledge of Stacks or inscription development is required.

I’m a songwriter, producer and the founder of Audionals and Xtrata. Audionals grew from my interest in making music creation more transparent, collaborative and accessible.

The project treats musical components as reusable on-chain objects. These can include recordings, samples, instruments, effects, applications and the instructions that arrange them into music.

In this session, I’ll demonstrate existing work, explain how components on Bitcoin and Stacks can contribute to the same creative ecosystem, and discuss the practical challenges of building music tools this way.

I’ll also explore the long-term goal of recording contributions and agreed splits as part of the production process, creating a shared record that publishers and performing rights organisations could eventually consult. That is the direction of the work, rather than an integration already in place.

The session is suitable for musicians, developers and a general Bitcoin audience.
